What are we about?
The intended personality and mission of Wild Abandon Restaurant and the Red Velvet Lounge is best encapsulated at the top of
each menu with the question, "Where is the Red Velvet Lounge?"
Our menu states:
"Where is The Red Velvet Lounge?
You’re in it. The addition to our name is more a statement of mission than a designation of space. The name implies that you
should feel comfortable coming to this cozy spot for a quick bite or just cocktails with friends. It is our wish that not only
will Wild Abandon and the Red velvet Lounge be the neighborhood dining room but the neighborhood living room as well. So settle
in, get comfortable and order as much or as little as you like.
Our house is yours."
We are a neighborhood spot. This does not mean that we are cliquish; we welcome you no
matter where you live, how you dress, how you vote, whom you love, your gender, your transgender, the color of your hair, the
color of your skin, and please stop me. You get the idea. Many nights we know you all by name, while on others, each face is a
new face. The diversity here can be miraculous, and that's how we like it.
So what about the food?
It’s damn good. Dinner 6 nights a week and a kick-ass weekend breakfast/lunch (with super-duper Bloody Marys). The fare would be
Eclectic-American with a Northwest flair. As America is the melting pot so is our menu, without falling into that fusion quagmire.
We use the best ingredients and we make it all from scratch; free range meats and poultry with some organics, and farmed salmon is
not allowed on the premises. We use wild seafood (prawns, fish, etc.) whenever possible, and we are always guaranteed to have a few
vegetarian and vegan options. Menus are available to view on this website along with critical reviews.
Great Value!
We are certainly not the least expensive restaurant in Portland, but for the caliber of the menu we may very well be.
In synopsis:
Wild Abandon Restaurant was recently voted “the most unpretentious restaurant in Portland” by a band of our adoring fans.
Friendly, ultra-cozy, romantic, festive, great food, wine and cocktails, stellar desserts, and quite affordable, what more could
you ask for?
Come see us. We are dying to meet you.
